Unreal Engine 5 Officially Released
State of Unreal Livestream witnessed the official launch of Epic’s most awaiting next-gen game engine, Unreal Engine 5.
Following a period of early access starting from May 2021, Epic’s next-gen game engine, Unreal Engine 5 has now been officially released and available for the developers to download as a production-ready engine to create futuristic breathtaking projects. This news was first revealed during the State of Unreal Livestream where Tim Sweeney stated that the game engine has been "battle-tested" in Fortnite Chapter 3.
In addition to that, Epic has also released a Sample project, “Matrix Awakens” tech demo, which was developed in Unreal Engine 5 with a motive to showcase to all the developers the true power of the engine and the immense possibilities the engine offers. The tech demo promises a high level of content and lays of ground for the developers to enhance the project more with the addition of custom stories, building a custom world, and building games on top of it.
Not just that, the implementation of Lumen and Nanite in the Unreal Engine 5 would help the developers to achieve dynamic global illumination and virtualized micro polygon solutions resulting in ultra-realistic visuals and immense geometric details respectively. Along with that Epic shared the working of a distance-based streaming solution namely World Partition, that would simplify the large world creation process by turning it into a grid and then streaming it cell-wise. This technology will help the developers to create massive worlds for their games staying optimized throughout the process. Developers would also be able to see a redesigned UI, new animations and modeling tools, and much more other stuff packed into a single-engine.
With that being said, it’s quite evident that with the release of Unreal Engine 5 we would be able to see a nice shift to advanced game development methodologies. There are a lot more packed-up features for the Unreal Developers, it’s time to harness the true power of the engine and make some ultra-realistic futuristic projects.
