How the Game Development Industry Contributing to Support Racial Equality

After the tragic death of George Floyd, several Game Development Companies has responded and Contributed to take a stand against Racism. Here are the latest initiatives from Game Dev giants.

After the tragic incident that took place at Minneapolis, the entire world shook off and protest all around the US for the Racial Equity is on the road. Supporting the #BlackLivesMatter campaign many Industry giants and several other people has shown their clear stand to fight against the racism. Meanwhile, in Game Development Industry many Game Companies including Sony, Microsoft, Square Enix, EA, and many others have made it clear that they stand strong and will further help to eradicate racism from this land. Also, few companies like Humble Games, Itch.io, EA, Square Enix has financially supported through contribution to the #BlackLivesMatter campaign. Here are the details how these company responded so far.


Humble Games

Recently on 11th June Humble Games announced funding of $1 million for the Black Game Developers which will leverage the Game Development community in Africa. This includes support to the Game Developers that are the residents of the African continent or belongs to this continent.

Itch.io

Our favourite Indie Game Platform, itch.io has also launched a pay-what-you-want charity bundle open for all its creator to contribute and directly support Racial Justice and Equality. With a 10-day program, this event was expected to gain $5 Million but surprisingly it crossed the milestone within 4 days. All the creators over itch.io made it possible and this shows how everyone is united for the cause. The complete donations acquired will be donated to NAACP Legal Defence and Education Fund and Community Bail Fund. The Bundle charity will end on 15th June, so you can still participate in and contribute your valuable effort.

EA

Electronic Arts is also ahead on supporting the Racial Equality and hence announced $1 Million to the organization that is dedicated to Fight for Racial Justice in the U.S and against the discrimination around the world. This is, however, a great stand by the company.

Square Enix

Square Enix on 3rd June tweeted Officially that they will be donating a sum of $250,000 and will match the donations of the employee to combat racial injustice and stand with Black Lives Matter Organization.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft announced a donation of $100,000 to the NAACP and the Black Lives Matter in their official twitter handle and also asked others to donate if they are able to.

Developer Digital

Developer Digital an Indie Publisher has summed up with all its employees resulting in a donation of $65,000 in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Further, the company is also encouraging others to participate in this campaign.

Niantic

Niantic CEO John Hanke pledged a sum of $5 Million from the proceeds of the Pokemon Go fest ticket 2020 sales. The amount will be donated to the NAACP, Black Lives Matter, Color of Change and other such organizations those who are actively fighting with the ongoing Racial Injustice and discrimination around the world. Also an additional $100,000 to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute with matching the employee donations up to $50,00 will be donated.
