A New Era of Raytracing Games

Get a brief idea on Raytracing and check out all the games that support Raytracing so far.

Though it’s been a while Raytracing is in the news but nowadays you might be finding a storm of information about Raytracing and the Games supporting Raytracing these days. But what a big deal it is? Well, quite a big change in the field of graphics and possibly the future of Gaming. Here in this article, we would cover briefly Raytracing and a list of all the released and upcoming games with Raytracing support.

What is Raytracing?

On a general basis, Raytracing is a rendering method for generating an image by tracing the rays from the Camera onto the Scene and Calculating the Lighting, Surface Shading along with other parameters and projecting the calculated result onto a 2-Dimensional pixel plane and simulating the natural lighting and shading effects with the virtual objects. This technique helps in achieving a higher quality of visual realism where the traditional techniques fail to give the result. Though this might sound very computational heavy, with the advancement in technology this technique has now become computational efficient and is all set to be applied in practical games.

For decades we have been using the process of Rasterization to make up our scene and invest constant efforts to make it look real, but unfortunately, it’s quite impossible to add up ultra-realism with this technique. But with the rise of Raytracing, Now developers have the power to simulate their virtual world with more natural-looking scenes with accurate Reflections and Refractions. Such dynamic change in the lighting calculation lays off a base for the developers to make ultra-realistic environments and could potentially take the world of gaming to the next level.

Compatibility

As this technology is slowly coming into the market of Gaming and Game Engines, the Graphics Card Makers have already started to make their hardware compatible with Raytracing support. Now with that being said, it is time to upgrade your graphics card to the newer Nvidia Ampere RTX Series or Nvidia Turing RTX Series, or RX series of AMD.
